Sacro host delegation from Turkey
Sacro recently welcomed visitors from Turkey to its national office in Edinburgh. The meeting was part of a five-day study visit organised by the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and the European Commission with the aim of observing best practice and co-operation between NGOs and the prison service.
Representatives from Sacro's Board, directors and management made presentations on the Shine public social partnership and Supporting Prisoners Advice Network services. The meeting also discussed the challenges and opportunities for the third sector in Scotland.
James Carnie of SPS accompanied the delegation of Mr Ilhan Güler (probation teacher), Mr Muhammed Hilmi Yılmaz (prison officer) and Mr Bekir Alanoğlu (NGO director and prison governor). To manage language differences, the discussions were translated by Mrs Emel Pryor.
During their visit, the delegation also visited SPS headquarters, HMPs Cornton Vale, Low Moss and Edinburgh as well as meeting with third sector organisation, Families Outside.
